We also run one-off classes, events and workshops throughout the year for Balboa, Shag, Solo Charleston and 20s Partnered Charleston.
Our classes are in a new location at Stuart Hall on the Knox Church grounds, 449 George Street. It is situated on the first floor, accessed by staircase or alternatively there is mobility access off Pitt Street.

Knox Church - Stuart Hall
Balboa is a partnered swing dance that originated in the 1930s in Southern California, particularly in the beachside resort named Balboa. Crowded dance halls often had strict rules which prohibited the Charleston and other exuberant dances, so a dance which required very little space naturally evolved. We will teach a mixture of Pure Balboa and Bal-Swing for this block. This is an open level class and we will start from the ground up!
You can come to this class only or go all in and do Balbo AND Blues for the same price!

Tuesday 7:45pm - 8:45pm

Blues or “blues-idiom” dancing is a collection of dances and movements that grew out of the African-American / Black community and were danced to blues music. If you are new to Blues or have some basics under your belt then this block of classes is for you. Blues is a social dance in both partnered and solo movement - and in Dunedin we have a multiplicity of awesome blues music so the opportunities to get out and dance socially are often.
You can come to this class only or go all in and do Balbo AND Blues for the same price!Sign up here
Lindy Hop - Level One
We are done for the year with Lindy hop! New intakes of Beginners happen at the start of every month from February 2023. A block is 4 weeks long and everyone must complete two blocks before moving to level two. You will learn the basics of Lindy Hop - covering 8 count, 6 count, Charleston and how to blend them all together. New dancers can start on the first Tuesday of any month. After the last class of the month we have a social dance so you can try out your new moves on the d-floor.Sign up here
Lindy Hop - Level two
These classes are "Beginner plus" and/or "intermediate" level. The blocks are 4 weeks and each block will have a theme of either:
- Swing outs
- Mixing 6 and 8 count, or
- Classic steps
The last class is a social dance - instead - come and take part in the level 1 class to get to know the new community members.
Lindy Hop - Level 3
We will be holding one-off classes for experienced dancers on occasional Saturdays. These classes will stretch and challenge experienced dancers. Make sure to sign up to our newsletter and keep and eye on our facebook page for those classes.Follow us on Facebook
NB: Currently we are asking all attendees to register for full blocks rather than drop ins. This is so we can be assured that we can contact people if classes need to be cancelled for any reason.
When you sign up for a class, or turn up on a Tuesday evening at the venue, you can choose to pay for a single class, or buy a “class pass”, giving you a slight discount for your five or ten class pass. Class passes are valid for six months, and can be used at classes and monthly socials. We charge the same price for a dance class or monthly social.
Drop in: $10/$12 (unwaged/waged)
5 class pass: $45/$54
10 class pass: $80/$96
We only have cash or internet banking options available.
